Understanding Health Through Education, Art, and Community
Phelps Public Health connects education, art, and community action to help people understand health from a broader public health perspective.

WHO WE ARE
Health is shaped by more than the choices we make.
Our health is influenced by many things — the places we live, the people around us, the opportunities we receive, and circumstances we may never be able to choose.
Some of these factors are within our control. Many are not.
But even when we cannot change everything, we can still choose to understand more, listen more carefully, and create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.
Through education, creative expression, community participation, and service, we hope to bring public health closer to everyday life — connecting evidence with experience, and knowledge with human stories.
WHAT WE FOCUS ON
From Understanding to Expression to Action
Public health can feel distant when it only appears in reports, statistics, or classrooms. Our work creates ways for people to understand health, express experiences that may be difficult to explain, and take part in meaningful action.
FEATURED PROJECT
Public health often begins with ideas that can feel distant — statistics, systems, risks, and policies. Health Vision was created to bring those ideas closer to everyday life.
Through art, conversation, shared experiences, and community participation, we created a space where people could think about health not only as illness or treatment, but as something shaped by emotions, environments, relationships, opportunities, and the world around us.
We did not want the exhibition to give visitors one “correct” answer about health. Instead, we hoped to give people room to pause, notice, express, and begin their own conversations.
Public health becomes more meaningful when people can recognize themselves within it.

Not every experience of health is easy to explain through numbers alone. Health Vision also created space for people to leave thoughts, experiences, and reflections in their own words — allowing the exhibition to become not only something to look at, but something people could take part in.
